Avoidance/ Escape

Example:
John's mother asked him to share a story from school with the family at a big dinner. He knocked over his water and punched his brother in the stomach instead. His mother immediately removed him from the dinner to eat alone in the next room.

While John's mom was thinking she did the right thing by remobing him, he wanted to avoid dinner and escape the situation that caused anxiety or fear.
